2. Don't delay...shop today! Generally, a custom gown can take about 16 weeks or more to create, which doesn't include time for alteration, which can take weeks more. All in all, you could be looking at as long as 24 weeks, and if you're a savvy planner, you want to allow a little bit of breathing room in between. (Especially if you're buying your gowns during any of the peak times of the year!)
3. Ideas - the more, the merrier! Feel free to bring pictures of what you like (and maybe more importantly, what you don't like) to your appointment. You and your consultant will just be getting to know each other, and a picture is much more concrete than a verbal description. One person's "I really don't like anything too lacy" can be another's "Bring on the lace!"
4. Bring only the essential friends. We understand that there is always a HUGE list of people who want to come with you when you're trying on your gown, but you should only bring the ones whose opinions matter to you, and whom you really trust. Sometimes, having a large group of well-meaning friends can leave you overwhelmed and discouraged.
5. Try on everything! How many times have you tried on wedding dresses in your life? Even if this isn't your first wedding, you cannot possibly know what looks good if you never get it on. You can (and will, trust us!) be amazed when that dress that looked too (fill in the descriptive word here) on the hanger brings out your body type in a way you never thought possible! Don't let trying on dresses become one of the stresses of planning a wedding. It's about having fun, trying on amazing gowns, and finding "The Dress".
6. Have FUN! Wedding planning can be full of stresses, but what part of trying on gorgeous designer gowns says stress? It's all about enjoying the process. So, bring a couple close friends, some ideas, and an open mind, and we guarantee you'll find "The Dress" in no time.
